Talisman Backup Management Ltd.

Our Solution

Our Internet backup service is the best possible way to perform regular, secure, offsite backups of your important computer data. A Talisman Backup Management representative will install and configure advanced backup software called NovaNet-WEBTM from NovaStor on your computer.

You will determine the files and directories you wish to safeguard, possibly with reference to your own technical support. If you are unable or unhappy selecting a partial backup set, you may choose to have the software backup the entire hard drive(s) of your computer.

You choose when, and how often, your backup happens. You also choose the length of time your backups are retained on our Data Vault computer from a few weeks to many years.

The software will automatically encrypt and backup your data, as specified, over a safe Internet connection to a Data Vault computer in our secure premises. By using intelligent technologies the amount of data transmitted is incredibly small, containing only the small changes you have made that day. You may then access your data 24 hours a day to restore to any past backup.

Our backup solution requires you to have an Internet connection. It is remarkably fast with high-speed connections like Jetstream or cable modems. It is also quick over 56K modem connections.

Fast

Our backup system is fast for two reasons.

  1. Incremental backups - Only files that the user has changed are sent over the Internet.

  2. Compressed The unique FastBit™ compression system sends only tiny bit changes to existing files instead of the entire file like most backup programs do.

Secure

Talisman Data Vault storage computers are housed in a confidential and secure location behind a security firewall. The hard drives that your data is stored on are continuously duplicated in three places, and backed up to yet another computer regularly.

Easy

With `Wizards' to select backup sets and to restore files, it could not be easier to use this backup system. Backups can be scheduled to run at night, or, can happen in the background while you use the computer.

Safe

Using 448bit `Blowfish' encryption, all your data is encoded and unable to be accessed even by the Talisman Administrators. You may also create a secret key known only to you.

Talisman Support

Our charges start at $20 per month. You are charged only for the amount of data you have stored on the Talisman Data Vault computers in each month. The amount of data you backup depends on the `sets' of data you select, and on how much that data changes from day to day. As your data is compressed greatly when it is stored, it is often surprising how small this becomes. These factors make it difficult to predict how much storage space you will use.

Clients may backup or restore data any time of the day or night, an unlimited number of times. Clients have access to free telephone support from 8am to 8pm, six days a week. Extra charges may be incurred for phone support outside these hours, or for onsite support.

A Talisman representative will assess your computer and install the backup software to your specifications free of charge.

Once a year we review your computer and the software installation free of charge. Every day the success of your backup is verified by Talisman.

Restoring Files

Restoration is where a Talisman backup stands out. You use the same Internet connection for file restoration that you use for backups. Simply click on the file you want, select the date you need, and the software does the rest.

A different recovery procedure may be used when a system or hard drive crash requires a system rebuild. This recovery procedure means you reinstall your operating system and programs then request Talisman Backup Management to create a restoration compact disc. The CDR contains an automatic restoration program and your encrypted data. You run the program, enter your username and password, and the program decrypts and restores the files to your hard drive.

How does a Talisman backup respond to various risks?

Hard Drive Failure

Fire or Flood

Theft

In the event of your hard drive failing, the Talisman backup has safely stored the last backup you completed, usually the previous day. The process for restoring is for you or your technical support to install a new hard drive, load on your operating system and any packaged software you use. You then either connect to a Talisman server to download all your data files through the Internet, or, you contact Talisman Backup Management and request a CD to be made containing all your data, which you then load onto your computer.

Virus Infection

Sabotage

Dealing with malicious destruction of your precious data is a difficult task. A Talisman backup, however, copes brilliantly with a large number (user determined) of historic generations (often daily files for many months) of each file stored on our Data Vault computers. You are easily able to browse back to a time when your files were intact and un-corrupted. A Talisman backup has the added advantage of storing your data offsite at our secure locations, out of reach from most destructive forces.

Accidental File Deletion

The beauty of a Talisman backup is the simplicity of restoring files deleted accidentally. To access your large history of files all you need is an Internet connection. Your data can copy quickly back into place and you can continue with your day.
